San Antonio's Hacienda are stirring things up in the South, with a breed of rock music that is at once familiar and fresh. The band, comprised of brothers Abraham, Jaime and Rene Villanueva and cousin Dante Schwebel, formed in 2005. They recorded a six-song demo shortly thereafter, which ended up in the ears of Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach. Hacienda enlisted Auerbach's assistance in finishing their debut, Loud is the Night, in 2008. Follow-up Big Red & Barbacoa was released April 6, 2010, and takes Hacienda deeper into '60s pop-rock territory, drawing comparisons to the Beach Boys and the Sir Douglas Quintet. It's not hard to imagine Hacienda's surrounding buzz blasting them to indie stardom. With a summer tour opening for the Heartless Bastards and Black Joe Lewis, Hacienda will continue gaining deserved exposure to their unique brand of rock 'n' roll.
